One year ago today, my wife, Elaine, left this world after nearly a three year battle with Inflammatory Breast Cancer (IBC).
While the past year has been the most difficult time of my life, one bright spot was the formation of The Elaine Anestos Gorman Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to raise awareness about IBC.
My personal goal in establishing the Foundation has been to honor Elaine and use her memory to educate and help others. Although contributions have not been what we had hoped for, I am pleased that we are fulfilling the mission of the Foundation, as well as my personal goal, using these newsletters.
Elaine was a special education teacher and always thought of others before herself. Even while she was dealing with all of the problems resulting from cancer, everyone who visited her was always amazed at how Elaine was concerned about them rather than herself.
As a tribute to the memory of my wife, this issue of our newsletter will only contain one article, which is about the Foundation.
One other thing I would like to use this issue for is to thank everybody who has been there for me during this past year. In addition to the support of family and friends, I have been been blessed to receive countless prayers, good wishes, condolences, positive thoughts, etc., from readers of this newsletter, many from people I have never met or spoken with.
I know that these newsletters and the Elaine Foundation are getting the word out about IBC because you have told me so. As Elaine would have said, "Thank you, thank you, thank you."
I hope that you will take the time to visit
www.RememberElaine.org and share the information about IBC with others. Doing so will save somebody's life, even though we may ever know specifically how that happened.
We will send out our regular newsletter toward the middle of September and then resume our normal schedule of publishing the newsletter around the first of each month.
Our offices will be closed today and we will reopen tomorrow.
Sincerely,
